[ ] Sketch the room outline and label each wall.
[ ] Record the length of every wall segment.
[ ] Include recesses, alcoves, columns and built-in cupboards.
[ ] Measure the overall span where possible to cross-check sections.
[ ] Measure each door width and its offset from a labelled corner.
[ ] Mark door swing direction.
[ ] Measure each window width and offset from a labelled corner.
[ ] Record window sill heights and opening heights.
[ ] Record ceiling heights, slopes and changes in level.
[ ] Mark radiators, steps, fixed services and other obstructions.
[ ] Measure relevant furniture, including space needed to use it.
[ ] Repeat key measurements and record any uncertainty.
[ ] Check diagonals where practical; don't assume all corners are square.
[ ] Mark inaccessible areas and unverified assumptions.
[ ] Keep labelled photos alongside your sketch, if useful.
